Torrance Kendo Dojo
50th Anniversary Team Tournament
In commemoration of Torrance Kendo Dojo's 50th anniversary, we invite all members to participate in a "winner-stays" kachinuki team match tournament (the "Tournament"). In the spirit of kenyu, participants may create their own 3-person team (according to the divisions below) and join us in celebrating this milestone together!
The Tournament will generally abide by the Rules and Regulations set forth by the International Kendo Federation (FIK), with the following supplements:
Tournament Format:
3-Person Kachinuki Team Tournament
-
Participants will form 3-person teams of Senpo / Chuken / Taisho
-
Teams can be formed by participants of different dojos or federations to compete in one (only one) of the divisions set forth below
-
Each match will be 3 minutes, Sanbon-Shobu with the winner remaining onto the next match
-
Ties / Hikiwake: Generally, ties will result in the match ending in a draw, thereby proceeding to the next two players on each team, except for the following:
- Taisho vs Taisho: In the event the Taisho on both teams are tied after the 3 minute shiai match, the match will directly move into Encho (Ippon shobu)
- Senpo/Chuken vs Taisho: If the Senpo/Chuken of one team ties the Taisho, such match will end in a draw, thereby resulting in the team with remaining players being determined the winner (except for Semi-Finals/Finals)
-
Final and Semi-Final rounds: In each of the semi-finals and final matches, the Taisho must lose in order for the match to be determined. Accordingly, the Taisho cannot be eliminated by tying / hikiwake, and if there is no point scored in the allocated time (and a Taisho is playing) the match will enter Encho (Ippon Shobu).
Rules:
-
Team orders cannot be changed
-
COVID Separation Rule will be in place
-
No Tsuki or Jodan for competitors under 16 years of age and/or Shodan
-
Time between matches: Competitors are permitted 30 seconds of rest between matches.
-
Mens/Womens division is open to all ages and rank. Kenshi under the age of 18 will require approval of the dojo head instructor. Age is determined as of Jan 25, 2025.
